How Many Websites Do You Own?

If you have dedication and commitment to the success of your website or blog, there is no doubt that you can make quite a bit of money from the various opportunities that companies provide.

Applications such as Google Adsense and affiliate marketing are abundant and many other great money making ideas may swell the money making potential of your websites.

However, does the lack of concentrated effort play more of a role in your lack of financial success than you realize?

Strength in Numbers

Owning more websites doesn’t mean you’ll make more money.

You can have 30 sites with ingenious domain names that attract interest.

However, they all will fail if you don’t have content on them.

If you are faced with a website that isn’t performing to your expectations, it’s in your best interest to find out why – not buy another site in order to try again.

What Visitors Want

People visit websites in order to learn something new.

If you can’t keep their attention, these people will quickly leave and find the information somewhere else.

All of your material needs to focus on keeping the attention of your target audience.

You can write an amazing article that appears as the number one search result for that topic.

Without additional like-minded material, visitors will move on and not explore your site.

Using Data

There are some well-developed tools on the Internet to gather information about your audience.

Tools such as Google Analytics can provide you with demographic data that can help you deliver better content.

Heat map applications can be used that will show you what areas of your website are more important to your visitors.

Develop a strategy using tools such as these and you can cultivate your site to become more than it is now.

Focus Your Attention

Many website developers will maintain an idea for a few months and then buy another site to work on because they shifted focus.

If you want a website to succeed, you need to focus your attention onto that one location.

As soon as it gets to a point where you feel comfortable and it’s not a drain on your financial resources, you can sustain starting a new project.

Creating an amazing website that can be self-sustaining doesn’t happen overnight.

It could take anywhere from six months to several years in order to reach your dreams of thousands of visitors per day. Even that number could be skewed by your own daily activities.

Commit to the success of a single site and it will grow much faster than it would if you divided your attention across many.

Some websites fail because the owner doesn’t put in the time it needs to succeed.

This goes along with the idea of commitment as you need to dedicate a portion of your day to ensure the site’s success.

Treat the development as an additional job and try to schedule a proper amount of time to promote the site’s growth.

There’s nothing wrong with owning several websites simultaneously.

As long as you’re able to put in the proper amount of attention into each, they could all become successful. The problem is, not everyone has this ability to keep several sites productive all at once.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew and focus your attention on that which is the most lucrative.

  1. Personally, from developer point of view, having few sites allow me to test plugins on of the sites I own. I write WordPress tutorials and therefore need to test a lot of plugins. While most of the time I can test them on my localhost, some plugins are better being tested in a live site since I need to have some amount of data (number of social share, pageviews, and etc)

  2. Hi Ken,
Yes, it is one thing to build a website, and it is another story altogether for that website to make money. There are certain things that need be done.

Providing valuable contents for the website is one important step that should not be ignored.

I say “valuable” because it must answer the visitors questions so they can reward the webmaster in return.
