Making Money Through Blogging: Is This Really A Possibility?

With issues such as job insecurity and impending economic crises around the world, there are many people who are truly desperate to try to find alternative methods of earning an income.

One of the ways of doing this is generating an income online through writing.

It is a known fact that blogging, for instance, can bring in a huge income each month (of course by hitting all the right buttons).

However, if you read most of the online thoughts that people share, you will find that most of them tend to have a defeatist attitude towards this.

For instance, most of them will say that blogging for money does not make much sense, since you will end up putting in a lot of effort for a minimal amount of monetary compensation.

However, the one thing that you need to accept right from the start is that it is certainly possible to make a decent income through blogging.

The only thing you need to do is make sure that you keep some of the issues below in mind when you start, such that you are hitting all the right buttons.

Manage Your Expectations

The first and most important thing you need to keep in mind when you are thinking of blogging for money is managing your expectations.

You need to know how much potential blogging can bring for you, given variables such as how much of time you are willing to allocate to write the content.

This will enable you to not get disappointed in your quest to earn some money through blogging.

Choose a Niche Wisely

If you are thinking about blogging for money, you also need to be very keen on the kind of topic you choose to write about.

For instance, if you decided to write personal memoirs, you should not expect to earn any money out of the blog unless you have very interesting stories that will draw a lot of traffic.

The best way to find out which topics can be most profitable for you is by using one of the online keyword analysis tools, which will show you which keywords are popular. You can then build your blog around such keywords and thus gain much more traffic from search engines.

Choose Your Affiliates Wisely

One of the best ways of monetizing a blog is through the use of ads that are placed on the page.

People can click on these ads and you will then earn part of the revenue generated by the company you work as an affiliate for.

When choosing such a company, you need to consider issues such as frequency of payout as well as how much they pay per click to ensure that you do not get a raw deal.

You also need to make sure that you work with an affiliate program that can provide ads that are customized according to the kind of content that you provide, so that they can be relevant to your readers.

Be Consistent

This is perhaps the one thing that determines whether you, like some of the hardworking handful, will be successful in making money through blogging or not.

If, for instance, you tend to lose interest in the project early on, you will find that it is very difficult to make any significant amount of money out of the blog site.

By observing disciplined schedules such as posting articles regularly, you can keep providing your readers with worthwhile content, and this will result in increased income.

All in all, blogging in itself is not a get rich quick scheme. It requires determination, effort and of course ideas to make your blogging relevant as well as exposed to a huge group of readers consistently.

Do you have what it takes to blog for money then?

  2. @Sumit: Thanks for your response. You would be surprised to know how many new webmasters and bloggers are failing because they are not following their passion or trying to target an over-saturated marketing without offering anything new.

  3. I agree 100% with the idea of managing your expectations. This is one area where many are getting it wrong. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Chadrack: A LOT of bloggers are sold a dream and more often than not the initial expectations are astronomical. Incremental goals, long term targets should be set with a balanced approach.

  4. It’s definitely possible it does however take a lot of time and a lot of consistency.

    • @Nicholas: Thanks for taking the time out to comment on my post. I agree, that becoming a successful blogger takes patience, passion and persistence.

  5. Yeah, surely anybody can make money online just they have to do blogging with honesty and patience, otherwise they may lack in the earning.

Patience is really important in blogging to reach heights . So, a newbie blogger don’t have to hurry in blogging. If he work hard and honest with patience then surely 101% he/she will get success soon.

    • @Ashwani: I think new bloggers have to understand that they won’t earn their targeted income overnight. Most ‘pro bloggers’ took a couple of years to reach where they are today (and they are sooo good). A new bloggers should know that. Making money through blogging is real if you keeping working towards the goal and ‘give it time’.

  6. Blogs are very cheap to set up and maintain. Another great benefit from blogging is that they are very cheap to run.

  7. Shirish Dhungel says:

New bloggers must get connected with related niche blogs/websites to make more changes in their blogs.
This is the key to acquire high rank and good revenue.

  12. Hi Anushree,
You have provided here a gamut of wise tips for blogging. I completely agree with the tips which says management of expectations, it is fair to expect, but a limit must be put on what one is expecting. Secondly, ascertaining a wise niche in accordance with the interest of the blogger is vital. Thanks for the share.

  13. @Aayna: Thanks for your kind words. True, a lot of loggers get into niches thinking they are hugely profitable. They should try and find industries they are passionate about and that one decision could make or break their professional blogging career.

IT WILL HELPS ME in future to make money online

hope u wii publish more info regarding to this topic

  16. Thanks for sharing the essentials of moneymaking through blogging. It surely is a great experience altogether.

  17. very informative article yes blogging is very reliable way to make money online

  18. I love these tips! But how do you find advertisers and how do you know if your host actually enables advertisement banners? These answers would really help me!

  19. @Elliott: Let’s advertisers find you. You can start with Adsense, move to buysellads and go with own contacts later on.

  20. I think the most important thing is to stick with it. Many people give up too easily and too soon. You need to stay the coarse in order to make any money from the blog.

The way it usually happens is like this:

    1. Start blogging (1-3 months) – lots of motivation, ideas, dreams and hopes. This is all great as long as your motivation, ideas, dreams and hopes do not die out too soon or get burned out.

    2. Some results (3-5 months) – keep on working and now monetizing the blog (you’ve got some traffic, why not start capitalizing on it). The main problem here is that you are probably not yet seen as an authority or an expert in your niche, therefore few people, even your loyal readers will purchase anything from you or take you recommendations. Affiliate marketing and product promotion needs to be introduced at snail’s pace, very gently and discreetly.

    3. Loss of interest (5-12 months) – traffic is very low, only a few dollars made and the blogger is quickly losing interest. No one wants to keep working if they are not seeing incredible results. Again you have to look at any results as great results because you are competing against millions of other people on the web for the same set of readers.

    4. Failure, blog shut down (12-15) – I gave it a shot, no one wants to read my content, I am making no money, lets move on to other things.

If only people stayed the coarse, they would probably start seeing nice traffic numbers and finally begin making some decent money.

Also like you said consistency is extremely important. Consistency should not only be in writing quality content, but also spending a few hours everyday driving traffic to your blog whether it’s through social media, commenting, forum participation or any other method. If you do everything according to a carefully crafted plan and well defined strategy, and continue on practicing good havits, then you WILL see success in making money through you blog.

**I am not a professional blogger or affiliate marketer by any means, but I have been studying the blogging and affiliate marketing science (yea it’s a science) for over 5 years now and finally beginning to put all of my knowledge to use on my own blog and sharing it with other people.
