Your blog should have a distinct personality which will add originality into it. Posts that are written from a first person point of view can be good as it gives your readers an idea who you really are.

Great tips. I have two of my own…
1. Listen to your visitors. This is about your tip about being a good communicator. When your visitors give you advice, as a blogger you should listen. You should also ask questions, and then, listen to the answers.
2. Keep your blog personal. It’s a lot more fun and interesting to read about personal experience. This makes your blog different and stand out from the crowd.

@Ryan: I am happy with the first point you made here. A LOT of new bloggers would just choose a free theme and won’t invest on a custom logo. They are leaving money on the table.
Quality content is a concept that a LOT of bloggers fail to grasp. If there is nothing unique, new, interesting or useful in your posts, people are not going to tell others about your blog, they are not going to link to you and they are not going to mention your posts in their tweets. Grammatically correct content need not always be called “quality content”.
Another thing to keep in mind is persistence.
Be sure to choose a topic that you can write about every single moment of your day, or you will give up soon.
Keyword there is “passion”, though I have come to believe that you can develop a passion for a new topic with some effort
You would need to setup smaller goals so that you don’t give up early on.

SEO and social media is crucial for the success of any blog. Twitter and Google+ are really good along with Facebook. Content is king but unless until that is promoted well, it’s not going to spread the magic word about a blog. So promotion is critical for any blog’s success.

All very good advice. Personality is good, but it has to have the foundation of really well-written text. Just like SEO is great, but there’s no point if you’re promoting poor content!

These are certainly great tips worth following. Then again, even if you follow them by heart, it does not mean you will become successful with blogging unless you have the passion and dedication for it. I’ve seen many good bloggers who even have good SEO fail in blogging simply because they lost their enthusiasm.
