6 Easy Ways to Get More Traffic on Your Site

Getting more traffic to your website or blog is a huge deal.

People have a million ways that they do this. Some of these ways work and some do not. Some ways require a huge investment of either time, money, or both. Some just take a few minutes but make a huge impact.

These ways I am about to tell you fall in the latter category.

They do not take a lot of time or money to do, but they can help your blog or website get a lot more traffic than ever before.

1 . Guest Posting

The first way to get more traffic is through guest posting. Guest posting is a simple exchange. One site gets content and you get a link back to your site. It is a win-win for everyone involved.

If you can get a guest post opportunity on a good site and you write good content, your blog or website will get tons more traffic than it did before.

It is linking with the benefit of not only getting your search engine rankings up, but also encouraging organic contacts with real readers.

2 . Commenting

Commenting on other people’s blogs or posts is a great way to not only get your links on their sites, but also to engage with the community.

If you can make friends with other site owners, you can band together to share information and even readers. There does not always have to be a competition, cooperation works better for everyone involved.

Of course, I am not saying you try to team up with a competitor, bit finding someone in a similar field that offers something your readers need is a great way to get more for yourself and them.

3 . Accurate keywords

You have to be accurate in how you classify your site and posts. If you tag wrong, you get the wrong search results and the wrong readers.

It will not matter how good your content is if it does not match what they are looking for.

Make sure you use keywords accurately and with the best possible words so that your posts and site can be found by people who really want what you are offering.

Huge Traffic and many cars queued in highway

4 . Keep it short

Making your paragraphs short helps readers to stay interested in what you are saying. No one wants to read a big chunk of text!

If you can break up your content into smaller paragraphs, you will be much better off and have more people stay on your site.

5 . Use lists

In the same way that people like to read short things, people also love post lists. Lists make it easy to scan and see which points appeal to them.

They also let the reader know ahead of time exactly how long the article will be. Sometimes they have time to read a list of ten but not of a hundred!

Lists will get attention and bring in more readers.

6 . Make it strange

For some reason, strangeness sells. The more odd your titles and content are, the more likely it is that people will want to stop and take a look.

Having strange content is a great way to get attention. It can be about current events, celebrities, or weird news.

Your title should make them think twice when they read it and make them want to click on it to find out what it is all about. Strange titles and content are a great hook for new readers.

These tips are not difficult. They really should not take up a lot of your time.

They are also free to do. But they are a great way to get more traffic to your blog or website. If you need more traffic, try these tips today.

  1. Hi,
I must say that these six tips that you have highlighted are really very important and these would definitely help in attracting traffic to your site. Well, I think unique and fresh content also attracts a lot of traffic. Both Guest posting and commenting on blogs plays important role as you have suggested. It helps in increasing interaction with visitors, ultimately increasing your site traffic. Thanks for the share!!

  2. Guest blogging is one of those traffic generating tricks that I have not tried yet. I have been concentrating on building my own content and haven’t explored that area yet.

I am not sure if commenting can bring tons of traffic to a site. Well, I see that lots of blog owners does that. I also think that it depends on the blogs you are commenting.

  5. @Debra: You make it look like it’s easy :D I think I will rate the blog comments and keep it short points as the best point in this post. Here are some more advantages of writing blog comments.

    1. If you follow some blogs in your niche and regularly comment on them, you already know about what’s happening in the industry. Reading and commenting on blogs almost always give me more blog post ideas.

    2. If you do take comments seriously and don’t comment on blogs only to get a link, you can get some serious traffic and *surprise*, you can also get invited to write a guest post – I got my first guest post invites 3 or 4 years ago from bloggers because I was writing comments on their blogs regularly.

@Annetta: Try guest posting today. You get to write posts in a different style because you try to match the host blogger’s style. Many ‘gurus’ claim that you should concentrate on building your own content first, I would say take a hybrid approach.

Commenting won’t bring you traffic unless you are commenting regularly. People should start recognizing you on the blogs before they click on your link :) I can personally vouch for commenting being an awesome way to get direct sales.

@Nishant: I like your latest post ;-) You nailed the strange part and I am going to visit your girlfriend .. oops blog next.

  8. Commenting on blogs that allow links to my websites has been the single best way I’ve found to bring visitors to my website. I wanted to add a point about the differences between a bulleted and numbered list, since I agree lists make info easier to scan. You use a bulleted list if the items in a list are of equal important, such as a list of ingredients. Use a numbered list, if the items are listed according to importance, or if they represent steps that must be followed in order.

  12. I’m sorry to say this is quite an ordinary list. These are well established conventional methods that even the beginners nowadays know about. You should be using something more out-of-the-box!
I am amused by the sixth one :D Yes! Being strange had pulled me in several times before. Controversies too are trending! If you can go against something, you steal the spotlight :D
Something I found really effective to get a quick boost is to enable Google Author tags in my blog. It really helped us grow up into what some might say as a reputable site (kinda :D ) I wish you add this too in your list.

    • Jyothis: I don’t really agree with you that all beginners know about these tips. I regularly come across bloggers and webmasters who have NO idea what guest post, keyword research or blog commenting are. You seem to be interacting with experienced webmasters only.

Debra already said these are easy methods and hence are probably already targeted towards beginners.

    • I agree that these are basic ideas, but those are often the most effective ones too. Thanks for your comment.

  13. Useful tips..
