And these directories below have high pagerank :
PageRank : 9
Dmoz.com : this is the most difficult one. As you know, Dmoz is probably the most popular free directory, but as the PageRank is so high, and probably the big numbers of submission, being accepted is very hard.
Read carefully their guidelines for suggest a link and most of all try to find a correct category, giving a complete description for your site.

Hi Erik. Hope you well.
Just out of interest why is Dmoz so big? I hate using it. The interface is a bit confusing, it’s not very attractive and I never hear anyone talking about it other than that it gives you a really good boost to your SEO.
What’s your take on it?
February 14, 2012 at 1:21 pm
Hi Niall,
everything is fine, I hope the same for you !
DMOZ (also known as the Open Directory) is the largest human-edited directory of the Web with almost 5 million websites listed.
It is maintained by a huge community of volunteer editors who are responsible for one or more categories.
Every website and page that is added to the directory has to be manually reviewed before it is included.
Dmoz is free, and there is not option to pay to be listed faster.
Getting a website included in DMOZ can take very long time.
DMOZ has PageRank 9, so you understand that it will clearly gives to your website huge SEO beneftis, if you will be listed.
So it is worth working on the submission !

Hi Erik
I submitted mine a while back; have no idea if or when it’ll be submitted.
What I meant was, do people actually use the directory for looking for websites as opposed to just going on to submit their site for SEO purposes?
Niall

Niall,
I have checked around, and it seems that very few people actually use DMOZ for searches in the same way that Google is used, so the directory itself is of little value in generating traffic.
However, the data can be easily downloaded for free, and any website, even if it is small, can use it.
One major website that downloads and uses DMOZ’s data is Google!
In fact, Google’s directory is nothing less than the downloaded DMOZ directory…
This is another reason why get listed in DMOZ is so important !

Okay, cool thanks!

Hi Erik. I read this article: http://techlunatic.com/2011/10/2-high-authoriy-easy-free-backlinks-every-marketer-must-grab/
Surely it’s bad advice in terms of backlinks as they are nofollowed?
February 18, 2012 at 3:48 pm
Hi Niall !
Actually it is a good advice, because you can have two easy High DoFollow Backlinks.
(Personally I had already set up both : my account of YouTube a long time ago, in Google+, not a long ago, when I was able to sign up..
See also this article, written by Kristi Hines
(she is a very popular blogger, internet marketer and SEO expert) :
http://sem-group.net/search-engine-optimization-blog/seo/how-to-optimize-7-popular-social-media-profiles-for-seo/
You can of course check personally if you have doubt about a link if it is dofollow or nofollow.
There are two ways to find out :
- the first is to download a Firefox add-on, which will automatically let you check no-follow status of a page;
- the second method is open a brower’s source file (I use Google Chrome) and search for “no-follow” tag, if you do not see the “no-follow” tag, then the link is do-follow.
I hope it helps you…
February 19, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Yeah, I just checked them as well. Read somewhere that they don’t (too much bad advice on the internet).
I also know that http://about.me and http://pinterest.com give DoFollow links and they are high PR as well.
February 19, 2012 at 5:16 pm
Actually I have wrote about Pinterest and its DoFollow Links juice inside, see the article here How PINTEREST Can Boost Your Online Marketing.
I have never checked “About.me”, thanks to let me know, Niall !
I see it is also DoFollow…

Thanks for this great High ranking back-link list that is now Do-follow that you have shared Erik, but I have encountered a big problem lately, I noticed that Google changes their algorithm again, and they don’t recognized some Back link. But I’m happy to try this list that you have shared.

Hi Sean,
actually there are some directories where you have to pay, with high PR and where you can be sure that you can be approved in.
But I am listing and looking just for the FREE directories, that have also high PR and will help you with SEO, in the same way.

Thanks for sharing this list of resources. I still haven’t submitted my baby shower blog to Dmoz. I’ve been putting it off until I work on it more. I’d like to create some categories and more content before submitting. I hope they accept it. Great list!
All the best,

we have submitted 5 websites to DMOZ few weeks ago but none of them appear in DMOZ, wonder why?
these sites meet their guidelines.
Why they cant send you a email saying if it any of the websites being rejected??

Hello,

Hi Amit,
I have to update this : DMOZ is PageRank 8 now.
It is well known as the “Open Directory”, it is edited by real people and it is so well considered also by Google.
It seems that a lot of people fills the submission form, but very few get included.
In some advertising network, Dmoz is a metric to value your site (Teliad for example).
DMOZ is free, and you can not pay to be included faster.
Getting a website included in DMOZ can take so long!
But it is worth to try.
Just be sure to pick the right category for your site,
and spend some time in reading the submission guidelines,
in order to get more chances to get listed.
Good luck !
