Doggles
It is a commercial brand of sunglasses for dogs in the form of tinted goggles designed to fit the shape of a dog’s head.
Naturally a pair of goggles is a sort of thing that a dog does not really need, but this idea, started online, has made millions of dollars and real stores have opened up all over the world.
Doggles were invented by Ken and Roni di Lullo after they noticed their dog squinting in the sunlight : this was the original idea and then they continued expanding their product line to include vests, other eyewear and even jewelry.

Alex Tew, a 21 year-old college student in England, created in 2005 this website in order to raise money for his univesity education.
The idea was to make this home page with a million pixels arranged in a 1000 × 1000 pixel grid and the image-based links on it were sold for 1 dollar per pixel in 10 × 10 blocks. Within 4 months he had sold a million pixels!
The interesting fact is that with his firt 1000 dollars of sales, he bought a press release which he distributed to media sources.

How to invent something new
You have to be yourself.
Believe in yourself.
Try to understand what may be interesting, do not copy, put everything into question : any experience can stimulate you.
The wise madness takes you far away.
Curiosity : look what others are doing.
Contamination : take ideas that work in other areas and apply them to your industry.
Multisensory : use your senses to learn things with a new approach.
Travel : taking some trips and learning about different cultures, stimulates your creativity.
Edison said that “1% inspiration is what we invent, the rest is perspiration.”
Intuition alone is not enough, it must be turned in a real project with hard work and determination.
Most of the people demoralized in front of the commitment, but it takes genius and recklessness!
If you abound in talent and ability to realize in short supply, you have a chance: find a methodical partner that complete you.
Keep your feet on the ground and make good deal. If you fail, do not beat yourself. Know your limits. Do not think of doing everything at once and alone.

Hi Erik,
There’s a saying I’ve just remembered: “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Many great ideas are born this way and their creators found success. But you are right, they are just ideas if they are not acted upon. It takes patience, hard work, and determination to succeed.
It’s amazing what people can come up with and I love reading stories of people who’ve turned their ideas into something big and meaningful.

Great post Erik and thank you for sharing those other cool ideas people came up with.
I actually just saw some doggles yesterday when I posted a video on my Facebook wall of a dog riding on the back of his owners motorcycle. I’m a huge dog lover but I don’t “dress up” my daughter. But people do and spend tons of money on it so it’s huge.
This article actually came at the right time for me. I’m having lunch with my niece tomorrow who is thinking about dropping out of college. She has no idea what she wants to do with her life and she’s a lot like me, school was just hard. I know she’s creative so hopefully I can convince her to come online and give this a shot. I have no doubt she can find her way here. Your post just may inspire her!

I believe that training at school matter much if you want to do a job in which the qualification is important: for example if you want to be a lawyer or notary, or architect.
But the world is full of stories of people who have not studied a lot and have become wealthy with crazy ideas, just because they are pragmatic, courageous and full of incentives …

Definitly a good read, its true that the internet has broken down a lot of barriers for people who want to make it themselves, however one thing that is still needed as far as I can see and applies in any age is hard work, thats the one element people never enjoy applying!
